Top Export Markets for Beverages

The data in this analysis is from the International Trade Centre (ITC). It is limited to the following product categories as categorized by the ITC:
Product Group 2009 (Fruit juices)
Product Group 2201 (Waters, not containing added sugar, other sweetening matter or flavoured)
Product Group 2202 (Waters, containing added sugar or other sweetening matter or flavoured)
Product Group 2209 (Vinegar and substitutes for vinegar obtained from acetic acid)
Beverage Imports Analysis by Region
We can see that the largest import market for these products is Europe & Central Asia (approximately US$ 19 billion in 2016) . However average annual import growth between 2012 and 2016 was actually negative in this region. This means entering the market and gaining share would be quite difficult. However, we can see that North America and East Asia & the Pacific showed strong growth during this time period with substantial import volume. Targeting these regions could be easier.

Within East Asia & Pacific, the countries with the highest volume of beverage imports in 2016 are Japan, Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Australia, Singapore and South Korea. Of these countries Hong Kong, China, Vietnam and Singapore show strong growth as well. In addition, Cambodia, Laos and Phillipines also have high growth in imports making them a great target for expansion.
Beverage Imports Analysis for Europe & Central Asia Countries
Within Europe & East Asia, the countries with the highest volume of beverage imports in 2016 are Germany, United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, Belgium, Austria and Spain. Most of these have limited year over year import growth. In addition, Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia and Uzebekistan have high growth in imports although limited volume.
Beverage Imports Analysis for Latin America & Caribbean Countries
Within Latin America & Caribbean, the countries with the highest volume of beverage imports in 2016 are Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. Of these countries, import growth in Colombia, Chile, El Salvador, Guatemala and Costa Rica has been strong as well. Year over year imports in Colombia have grown particularly quickly. In addition, Dominican Republic, Peru and Cuba have been posting high growth in imports as well.
Beverage Imports Analysis for Middle East & North Africa Countries
Within the Middle East & North Africa, the countries with the highest volume of beverage imports in 2016 are Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait and Israel. Most of these countries have strong growth in imports as well. In addition, Jordan has had high growth in imports although limited volume.
Beverage Imports Analysis for North America Countries
Within North America, the countries with the highest volume of beverage imports in 2016 are the United States and Canada. The United States has also seen strong year over year growth.
Beverage Imports Analysis for South Asia Countries
Within South Asia, the countries with the highest volume of beverage imports in 2016 are India and the Maldives. Both have had quite strong year over year growth in imports as well. In addition, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have had high growth in imports although limited volume.
Beverage Imports Analysis for Sub-Saharan Africa Countries
Within Sub-Saharan Africa, the countries with the highest volume of beverage imports in 2016 are South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal and Congo. Import growth in South Africa and Nigeria has been negative but the other countries have seen strong import growth. In addition, Comoros, Guinea, Equitorial Guinea, Ethopia, Mali and Malawi have high growth in imports although limited volume.
